Every once in a while, a stone arrives that refuses to be designed around. It becomes the design.
Aurelian began with a single unheated sapphire whose color shifts through mesmerizing zones of blue and gold. The movement within the stone was so distinct that I didn’t want to force it into a preconceived idea. I wanted to listen to what it was already doing and allow that natural flow to lead the way.
The bypass silhouette grew directly from the sapphire. Its curves follow the stone’s color zoning, carrying that sense of movement outward and into the band. The additional sapphires were chosen to echo the cooler tones of the center stone and gently guide your eye back toward it, reinforcing the color story without taking anything away from the main event.
Finding the right balance within the asymmetry was incredibly important. The cool sapphires lead your gaze through the design before the warmth of the yellow gold grounds the entire piece. There is a tension between movement and stability, boldness and balance, that makes the ring feel alive.
During the design process, I initially thought the bypass elements might need to be larger and more dramatic. What surprised me was how much stronger the design became when those swoops were made smaller and more intentional. It didn’t need more. It needed precision.
One of my favorite details is the tilted compass prongs. They secure the sapphire without interrupting its color or movement. They are an essential part of the structure, but they almost disappear into the design, allowing the stone to remain completely uninterrupted.
The name Aurelian comes from aureus, the Latin word for golden. It speaks to the unexpected yellow-gold glow within the sapphire and the way that warmth holds its own against the vivid punch of blue.
I imagine Aurelian belonging to someone who is naturally drawn to color and organic beauty. Maybe they dress boldly and see jewelry as an extension of that expression. Or perhaps their style is more understated, and jewelry is where they allow themselves to embrace color fully.
Aurelian speaks in movement and color. It is artful, bold and completely led by nature. Every curve follows the sapphire’s direction, allowing the beauty already held within the stone to become something wearable.
